Your first clean

The visit that sets the baseline

The first clean is longer than the ones after it. I use it to learn your house, then I write the checklist with you for every visit after.

You get the price in writing before it starts, and I tell you how long to expect. If I find something the price didn't cover, I call you before I do it.

A visit, in order

The day of your first clean

  1. 01
    Evening before

Step 1: I text our window

The evening before, you get the arrival window and a reminder to put away what you'd rather I didn't touch.

  2. 02
    On arrival

    Step 2: A walk-through at the door

If you're home, we go through the checklist together. If you're out, I work from your notes and the written price.

  3. 03
    Most of the visit

Step 3: Two of us, room by room

Deshawn and I split the house, bathrooms and floors on one side, kitchen and dusting on the other.

  4. 04
    At the end

Step 4: We read the list back

Before we leave, we check the checklist against the house, and I fix anything we missed.

  5. 05
    That evening

Step 5: You get a note

A short text that evening with what we did, what we noticed, and what I would change next time.

What a visit covers

What the first clean covers

This is the starting list. You tell me what to add, skip or do twice.

  • Kitchen

    • Counters, sink, stovetop and backsplash

    • Outside of the fridge, oven and dishwasher

    • Cabinet fronts wiped

    • Floor swept and mopped

  • Bathrooms

    • Toilet, tub, shower and sink scrubbed

    • Grout and fixtures wiped

    • Mirrors and counters

    • Floor mopped

  • Living areas

    • Dusting, including high surfaces within reach

    • Switch plates and door frames

    • Floors vacuumed or mopped

    • Under the sofa cushions

  • Bedrooms

    • Dusting, headboards and nightstands

    • Floors vacuumed, under the bed

    • Beds made if you ask

    • Closet floors

What to do

Before we arrive

Three things to sort out in your first text with me.

  • Pets

Tell me which room your pet should be in, and whether it is fine with strangers. I won't open a door you've told me to leave closed.

  • Parking and access

Tell me where to park. Then tell me how I get in: you at home, a lockbox, a door code or someone you name.

  • What to put away

Medicine, cash, paperwork and anything breakable you'd rather I leave alone. I clean around things and don't move furniture.

Questions about a first clean

How long does a first clean take?

Longer than a regular one. I tell you the window when I send the price, once I know your bedrooms, bathrooms, pets and how long since the last clean.

Do I need to be home?

No. If you're out, leave me notes on the counter, or text them. I read the checklist back to you in the evening note.

What if the price changes on the day?

It doesn't change without a call. If the house is not as you described it, I tell you what I see and we agree on a new number or a shorter list.
